Program Improvement Requirements – LEAs in PI

PI Year 1

PI Year 1, Newly Identified
An LEA that failed to meet all Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets for two consecutive years becomes newly identified for PI.

  • Set aside and spend 10% of Title I funds on professional development.
  • Develop an LEA Plan Addendum.
  • Submit LEA Plan Addendum by April 2016 in CAIS.

PI Year 1, Maintains PI Status
An LEA that advanced to PI Year 1 in spring 2013 or 2014 and successfully met all AYP targets in the spring of 2015 maintains its PI Year 1 status.

  • Implement LEA Plan Addendum; no submission required.

PI Year 2

PI Year 2, Newly Advancing
An LEA that was identified as PI Year 1 in spring 2013 or 2014 and failed to meet all AYP targets in the spring of 2015 advances to PI Year 2 status

  • Set aside and spend 10% of Title I funds on professional development.
  • Implement LEA Plan Addendum; no submission required.

PI Year 2, Maintains PI Status
An LEA that advanced to PI Year 2 in spring 2013 or 2014 and successfully met all AYP targets in the spring of 2015 maintains its PI Year 2 status.

  • Implement LEA Plan Addendum; no submission required.

PI Year 3

PI Year 3, Newly Advancing
An LEA that advanced to PI Year 3 in spring 2013 or 2014 and failed to meet all AYP targets in the spring of 2015 advances to PI Year 3 status.

  • Continue to require 10% be spent on professional development.
  • Access technical assistance.
  • Submission of an LEA Plan may be required for districts first in PI Year 3 as a result of the spring of 2015 results
  • Complete an annual progress report by Sept. 30 of each year.

PI Year 3+, Maintains PI Status
An LEA that advanced to PI Year 3 in 2007-2014 maintains its PI Year 3 status until it makes AYP for two consecutive years. For each year that it remains in PI Year 3 status, it is identified as “PI Year 3+.”

  • Implement LEA Plan.
  • Submit End-of-Year Evidence of Progress Report by September 30 of each year.
